Zagame’s Place, Hawthorn
A hospitality-inspired workplace in Hawthorn where thoughtful planning, refined detailing, and carefully considered amenities create a contemporary office designed around people.
Designed by Studio Arcka and completed in 2025, Zagame’s Place rethinks the traditional office environment. Drawing inspiration from boutique hotels, the workplace combines flexible amenities with space for collaboration, quiet focus and informal interaction.
Rather than treating hospitality as an aesthetic, the project focuses on creating an environment that people genuinely enjoy spending time in. Warm materials, comfortable spaces and a strong sense of flow make the workplace feel welcoming and intuitive.
From the moment you enter, the experience feels different. Instead of a formal corporate reception, a shared work hub with booth seating, layered joinery and relaxed furniture creates an atmosphere that feels more like a hotel lounge than an office.
Throughout the building, the emphasis is on comfort and usability. Breakout areas, quiet zones and end-of-trip facilities are designed with the same level of care as the workspaces themselves, recognising that modern offices need to support a range of activities throughout the day.
The interiors are restrained without feeling stark. A calm material palette is softened by curved forms and carefully considered details that bring warmth and character to the space.
With a minimalist approach, proportion and detailing become especially important. Intrim’s SK800B Shadowline flush finish skirting and DJ800 integrated door jambs help maintain clean lines throughout the office, allowing walls, doors and floors to meet seamlessly. Used across both shared spaces and end-of-trip facilities, these details contribute to the calm and cohesive feel of the interior.
The hospitality approach extends beyond the office itself. Landscape design by Jack Merlo creates a welcoming arrival experience and provides informal outdoor areas that encourage connection and moments away from the desk. Together with the surrounding public realm, these spaces help position Zagame’s Place as more than simply a place to work.
What makes Zagame’s Place stand out is the consistency with which planning, materials and detailing come together. Every element has been considered to create a workplace that feels comfortable, functional and engaging.
For designers, the project demonstrates that the best hospitality-inspired workplaces are those where atmosphere and experience are considered from the outset. The result is a contemporary office that feels polished, welcoming and built for the way people work today.
